Meet Dr Alyssa Chan

Dr Alyssa Chan | Perth CBD, WA | Central City Chiropractic

Dr Alyssa Chan graduated from Murdoch University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Chiropractic. She has travelled to the impoverished community of Siliguri, India as well as rural parts of northern Western Australia such as Tom Price and Paraburdoo to provide free chiropractic treatment to the communities living there. Through these volunteering trips they have allowed her to experience first-hand how important and life-changing chiropractic treatment can be for everyone – young and old.

Her journey into becoming a chiropractor started long before she even realised the potential of the chiropractic adjustment. As a creative individual, she would often sit for long hours hunched over in one position on the floor writing, typing, reading, playing the guitar, hand-stitching, and anything creative! But being in a sustained position for such a long time had its negative impacts on her health and well-being. She suffered from chronic neck pain and frequent headaches throughout a lot of her younger years until she discovered the magic of chiropractic. Since she started working at Central City Health Professionals back in 2018, she has frequently related to and has always enjoyed treating office workers because she understands the stresses and impact these sustained postures can have on the body and mind.

That is why she believes it works both-ways:

A well-maintained body is a happy body.
A happy body means a happy mind.

That is the key to having good health and well-being.

As a chiropractor working within the heart of the Perth CBD, Alyssa naturally loves to see and treat office workers with stubborn neck, mid-back, and low back pain, as well as migraines and headaches. She is also very passionate about educating her patients so that they understand why they present the way they do and also the very importance of preventative spinal care.

Alyssa’s chiropractic vision is one that focuses on holistic health care and patient-centred approaches to treatment. She enjoys thorough discussions with her patients regarding their wants and needs, as well as their expectations around their treatment plan. She will always strive to ensure that her patient receives the best treatment that she can provide. She would describe her treatment style to be gentle and combined with modalities such as the following: Diversified Technique, Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT), manual adjustments, mobilisations, Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM) using a STMfish, drop piece, activator, biomechanical blocking, and soft tissue therapy.

She believes the power of the chiropractic adjustment is one part important to the treatment plan but also believes the addition of dedicated soft tissue therapy is also integral to the healing process. They go hand in hand and essentially affect one another – just like the word, musculoskeletal (muscles + skeleton/spine). That is why her appointments tend to be longer and more focused on areas of concern. She believes working on the muscles helps her to understand why someone may present the way they do. She also believes in working from the pelvis (the base/root) and upwards. It is with this mindset that she thoroughly enjoys trying to get to the root of the problem.

Being a chiropractor is a fulfilling job as it enables Alyssa to combine her love of human biology & anatomy with her fun, caring, and inquisitive nature. Outside of her job, she also like to embrace the creative and adventurous side of her personality. She is a huge music geek and enjoys listening to music in the alternative & indie rock genres. She loves to play the guitar and sing covers of her own favourite songs, design and create things by hand, watch action & thriller/horror films, go on spontaneous road trips, and also long nature walks (especially if it involves geocaching!). She is also a sports fanatic and enjoys watching (and used to play) soccer and tennis, as well as watching ice hockey.

If you think Alyssa may be the key to unlocking your happy body and happy mind, she’d love to help you!
